How many websites do we host per server and why we say that anyone selling cheaper then us will be deteriorating the server performance ?
Answer : We normally do not host more than 300-500 working websites on a Dual Xeon Quad Core Server Grade Machine with 4 -8 GB RAM. If one hosts 500 genuine working business websites out of which only 100 use database on the server then it is the highest number we can think of to give optimum performance. We DO NOT limit our clients by CPU or RAM but make sure that no individual hogs the server of its resources. We also try to ensure that our servers work on less then 33% of their capacity to give best of performance.

What about those who sell cheaper then us ? How can hosting providers sell extra ordinary cheap.
Answer : Cheap solutions then ours can only come by overloading the server or hosting dormant websites. We do not work on assumptions and the biggest plight for us is that all those who suffer from other hosting providers come to us and actually use our servers for good thus sticking for years. We at times have found that our resellers have also bought web server spaces in USA where they host their dormant web sites but with us they host their mission critical website or good and genuine users for the reason that they know that at times of distress we are one call away and do not over load our servers.
 
Shared hosting server is just like a local passenger Bus. Prices can be less only if more passengers/clients are hosted per server. Many hosting providers oversell with a belief that end users will not use much server resources or the moment they see someone putting even a slightest of load on the server they will pull his website down or ask him to upgrade and pay more.

All the client gets is GB's of storage space but WITHOUT needed resource allocation like CPU and RAM. Sitting in USA many hosting providers know that no one will be able to catch them or walk in to their office. For everything else which defies logic but they sell to unwary customers, has an answer in their Acceptable Usage Policy. There is hardly any tech support on phone. Extra ordinary low priced unlimited website hosting providers try to fool customers or cheat them of their hard earned money. They never sell cheap but oversell with a clear understanding that any great user of server resources will be asked to leave or upgrade. It is like they offer their clients to ride an aero plane but with many riders like there will be only 1/100 of engine to power it, there will be no road to land it but the plane is all yours and you can load as many passengers as you want but try not to use the engine as your allocated engine power is 1/100 for the reason that you pay for that only and not for seats as they are all yours.

Irony of the fact is, our local innocent technically qualified Indians at times believe that all those selling such packages in USA are more competent tech geeks and there is a way that they will be able to host unlimited websites.

We recently came across a hosting provider in USA selling 100 GB for $5 per month and asked them how many websites they host per server and what is their server configuration. The answer was they host close to 100 websites per server and their server was having 1000 GB space. When asked further then how come they offer 100 GB to all their customer, their reply was they oversell with a clear understanding that hardly 1 out of 1000 will even cross 1-2 GB

Control Panels like Plesk, Helm etc. have such features where they enable the service provider to set predefined limits of allocated resources.
Thus the mantra is to sell tons of cheap webspace but curtail the package by allocating very minimal CPU, RAM etc. On one one hand offer GB's of space with unlimited web site hosting plans but on the other hand allocate far lesser resources so that resellers can actually host limited websites. To put it aptly, hosting providers practically know that they are allocating much lesser resources to their clients so the resellers will actually land up hosting much lesser websites.

Just be practical, Servers are no NASA ships or satellites which can do anything, be wise and understand what is the use of buying unlimited websites package and get FOOLED. Try to use common sense, do simple maths by checking what are server prices and how one can host unlimited sites. STOP buying Qutub Minar or Taj Mahal and get wrong in the hands of these Bunties and Bubblies.
